BIT Mesra Successfully Concludes 5-Day Research STTP

The Department of Management Studies at Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra successfully concluded its five-day Short Term Training Programme (STTP) on “Research Methodology and Advanced Techniques in Multivariate Analysis” with a grand valedictory session held on May 29, 2026. The programme was designed to enhance the research capabilities of academicians, scholars, and professionals by equipping them with advanced analytical tools and contemporary research methodologies. Over the course of five days, participants were exposed to a wide range of topics that focused on strengthening their understanding of scientific research processes, statistical analysis, and publication-oriented research practices.

The training programme attracted participants from various universities and academic institutions, reflecting the growing demand for advanced research skills in higher education and professional research environments. Through expert lectures, practical demonstrations, and interactive sessions, the STTP created an engaging learning platform that encouraged participants to deepen their understanding of research methodology and multivariate analytical techniques.

Expert Session on Factor Analysis and Data Interpretation

The final day of the programme commenced with an insightful session by Dr. Harmeet Kaur from Jharkhand Rai University. Her presentation focused on Factor Analysis, one of the most widely used techniques in social science and management research. Dr. Kaur elaborated on the meanings, interpretations, and practical applications of various terminologies associated with factor analysis, helping participants understand the theoretical foundations of the technique.

Using real datasets and practical examples, she demonstrated the implementation of Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), highlighting its importance in identifying underlying dimensions within complex datasets. Participants gained valuable insights into data reduction techniques, variable grouping, and the interpretation of statistical outputs, enabling them to apply these methods effectively in their future research projects.

Understanding PLS-SEM and SmartPLS Applications in Research

The second session of the day was delivered by Dr. Tina Dutta from BIT Mesra, who focused on Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), a powerful multivariate analytical technique increasingly used in academic and industry research. Dr. Dutta presented her extensive work on PLS-SEM using SmartPLS software and provided participants with practical guidance on handling complex research models.

Her session emphasized the step-by-step process of analyzing multivariate datasets, validating research constructs, and interpreting structural relationships among variables. She also discussed best practices for presenting analytical findings in high-quality academic journals. The session proved particularly beneficial for doctoral scholars and faculty members seeking to improve the quality and impact of their research publications.

Developing Effective Conceptual Frameworks for Research

The third expert session was conducted by Dr. Somnath Mukherjee from the Department of Management Studies, BIT Mesra. His presentation centered on the development of conceptual frameworks, which form the backbone of any well-structured research study. Dr. Mukherjee explained how conceptual frameworks help researchers establish logical relationships among variables and create a clear roadmap for empirical investigations.

The session was highly interactive, featuring practical case studies and hands-on exercises that encouraged participants to design conceptual frameworks based on real-world research problems. Through collaborative discussions and guided activities, participants learned how to transform research ideas into structured frameworks capable of supporting rigorous academic inquiry.

Distinguished Academicians Grace the Valedictory Session

Following the expert sessions, the valedictory programme was organized in the presence of several distinguished academicians and institutional leaders. The event was attended by Dr. Sanjay Kumar Jha, Head of the Department of Management Studies; Dr. Ashoke Sharon, Dean of Faculty Affairs (DOFA); Dr. Anand Prasad Sinha, Associate Dean of Research, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship; Dr. Kumar Sanjay Sawarni, Professor in the Department of Management Studies; and Dr. Somnath Mukherjee, Assistant Professor in the same department.

The presence of these esteemed faculty members underscored BIT Mesra’s commitment to promoting research excellence and fostering an academic environment that encourages innovation, critical thinking, and interdisciplinary learning.

IIT Kanpur Professor Highlights the Future of Research

A major highlight of the valedictory session was the presence of Professor Raghu Nandan Sengupta from the Department of Management Sciences at IIT Kanpur, who attended the programme as the Guest of Honour. Addressing the participants, Professor Sengupta emphasized the growing importance of research-driven learning and analytical thinking in today’s rapidly evolving academic and professional landscape.
