BIT Mesra NCC Cadets Take Har Ghar Tiranga Message to Pancholi Village

BIT Mesra NCC

The spirit of patriotism and national unity received a strong grassroots push in Ranchi as the NCC Unit of Birla Institute of Technology (BIT), Mesra, organised a 10-kilometre walkathon and poster-making competition under the Har Ghar Tiranga 2026 campaign. The initiative was designed not merely as a campus activity but as an effort to take the message of respect for the National Flag beyond the educational institution and connect young students with the rural community. As India prepares to celebrate Independence Day, the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is once again encouraging citizens to express their pride in the Tiranga and strengthen their connection with the values represented by the National Flag. The 2026 campaign is being observed from August 9 to August 17.

A 10-Km Walkathon With a Message of National Unity

The walkathon became the central attraction of the programme as NCC cadets of BIT Mesra walked approximately five kilometres to reach Pancholi Village. The journey was more than a physical walk; it was an awareness drive aimed at carrying the message of patriotism, national unity and civic responsibility directly to the people. The cadets used the opportunity to interact with villagers and explain the objectives and significance of the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign. Their participation reflected the important role that educational institutions and youth organisations can play in connecting national campaigns with communities at the grassroots level.

NCC Cadets Engage With the Rural Community

On reaching Pancholi Village, the NCC cadets interacted with local residents and explained why the Tiranga holds a special place in the national consciousness. They encouraged villagers to proudly display the National Flag at their homes while maintaining the dignity and respect associated with it. National Flags were also distributed among the villagers as part of the awareness initiative. The interaction created an opportunity for students and villagers to come together around a common national sentiment and highlighted how youth-led initiatives can strengthen community participation in national campaigns.

The Har Ghar Tiranga initiative itself was conceived to encourage people to develop a more personal connection with the National Flag by bringing the Tiranga into their homes. The campaign, launched under the aegis of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, has evolved into a large public participation movement involving educational institutions, government organisations, communities and citizens across the country.

Inspiring Words From BIT Mesra Leadership

The programme began with inspiring addresses by Dr. Praveen Srivastava, Dean of Student Affairs, BIT Mesra, and Lieutenant Colonel Vikram, NCC CO. Their addresses motivated the participating cadets to become ambassadors of patriotism and civic responsibility and to carry the message of national unity to different sections of society.

The emphasis on youth participation was particularly significant because NCC has traditionally played an important role in developing discipline, leadership, teamwork and a sense of responsibility among young people. Through activities such as the walkathon and community interaction, the cadets were encouraged to understand that patriotism extends beyond ceremonial expressions and also includes responsible participation in society.

Poster Making Competition Adds a Creative Dimension

Alongside the walkathon, BIT Mesra organised a Poster Making Competition based on the theme ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’. Students expressed their ideas about patriotism, national unity and respect for the National Flag through creative artwork. The competition provided students with a different platform to communicate the message of the campaign while encouraging creativity and awareness.

The posters also demonstrated how visual communication can make national campaigns more accessible to young audiences. By combining creativity with a message of national responsibility, the competition helped reinforce the central theme of the programme and gave students an opportunity to interpret the meaning of the Tiranga in their own distinctive ways.

From Campus to Community: The Bigger Message

The significance of the BIT Mesra initiative lies in the way it connected the educational campus with the rural community. Instead of limiting the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign to students and institutional premises, the NCC cadets carried the message to Pancholi Village and engaged directly with local residents. Such community-based programmes can create stronger awareness because people get an opportunity to participate in the campaign through direct interaction rather than simply receiving information through conventional communication channels.

The initiative also comes at a time when the Har Ghar Tiranga campaign is gaining momentum across the country ahead of Independence Day 2026. Government institutions and community organisations are encouraging citizens to proudly display the National Flag and participate in activities associated with the campaign. The Ministry of Culture has described Har Ghar Tiranga as a people’s movement aimed at strengthening patriotism, civic pride and awareness about the significance of the National Flag.

Strengthening Youth Participation in Nation-Building

The programme was successfully organised and coordinated under the guidance and direction of Dr. Sumit Srivastava. The participation of NCC cadets highlighted the role of young people in spreading awareness about national values and encouraging greater civic participation.

The walkathon also offered an important message about the relationship between youth, society and nation-building. When students step outside their classrooms and interact with communities, they gain practical experience of communication, leadership and social responsibility. At the same time, communities get an opportunity to connect with the energy and enthusiasm of young people.

Har Ghar Tiranga Becomes a Community Movement

The BIT Mesra programme reflects the broader evolution of Har Ghar Tiranga from a symbolic Independence Day activity into a nationwide participatory campaign. The initiative has increasingly included Tiranga Yatras, awareness drives, cultural programmes, educational activities and community outreach, bringing together people from different backgrounds. The 2025 edition, for example, saw millions of citizens participate through selfies with the National Flag and a large network of volunteers and community activities.

With the 2026 campaign underway from August 9, activities such as the BIT Mesra NCC walkathon provide a local dimension to the larger national celebration. They demonstrate how the message of patriotism can move from institutions into villages and communities, creating opportunities for people to participate collectively.

Cadets Reaffirm Commitment to the Tiranga

At the conclusion of the programme, the NCC cadets reaffirmed their commitment to taking the message of Har Ghar Tiranga to different sections of society and promoting the values of national unity, integrity and civic responsibility. Their journey to Pancholi Village symbolised more than a 10-kilometre walk; it represented an effort to bridge the distance between a premier educational institution and the rural community through a shared national sentiment.

As Independence Day approaches, the initiative by BIT Mesra NCC serves as an example of how youth participation, community engagement and patriotism can come together to give a national campaign a meaningful grassroots presence. The sight of young NCC cadets walking towards a village with the Tiranga and a message of national unity underlines the central idea of Har Ghar Tiranga — that the pride associated with the National Flag becomes stronger when it reaches every home and every section of society.
