10 Crore Drug-Free India Abhiyan

A Historic National Mission to Build a Drug-Free India

India has taken another significant step towards creating a healthier and more responsible society with the launch of the “10 Crore Drug-Free India Abhiyan”, one of the country’s largest social awareness movements against substance abuse. The campaign was virtually inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while the Telangana chapter was officially launched at Shanti Sarovar, Brahma Kumaris, Gachibowli, Hyderabad, under the leadership of Governor Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla. The initiative aims to inspire ten crore citizens to pledge against drug addiction and contribute towards building a “Nasha Mukt Bharat”, where young people can achieve their dreams without falling victim to substance abuse. The campaign combines government support with spiritual empowerment, making it one of the most comprehensive anti-drug initiatives in recent years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi Calls Upon Youth to Become Nation Builders

Addressing the nation virtually, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stressed that the fight against drug addiction is not merely a government responsibility but a collective social movement. He urged every citizen to actively participate in protecting the younger generation from the dangers of drugs and addiction. According to the Prime Minister, India’s demographic strength lies in its youth, and safeguarding their physical, mental, and emotional well-being is essential for the nation’s future. He appealed to families, educational institutions, social organizations, and community leaders to become active partners in building a drug-free society. Highlighting the importance of positive thinking, discipline, and healthy lifestyles, he appreciated the efforts of the Brahma Kumaris in spreading awareness through spiritual education and Rajyoga Meditation, which has helped thousands overcome addiction and emotional stress. Brahma Kumaris’ Spiritual Approach Gains National Recognition

One of the defining aspects of the campaign is the integration of spirituality with social reform. Prime Minister Modi acknowledged the remarkable contribution of the Brahma Kumaris in promoting a drug-free lifestyle through meditation, self-awareness, and value-based living. Rajyoga Meditation has long been recognized for reducing stress, improving emotional stability, and helping individuals gain control over destructive habits. By encouraging inner transformation rather than simply focusing on punishment or restriction, the organization has successfully guided many individuals toward lasting recovery. The Prime Minister noted that spiritual strength can become one of the most effective tools in addressing modern challenges such as addiction, anxiety, depression, and social isolation. Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla Emphasizes Collective Responsibility

Launching the Telangana State-level campaign, Governor Shri Shiv Pratap Shukla described drug addiction as one of the most serious social challenges confronting modern India. He emphasized that defeating addiction requires collective action involving families, schools, educational institutions, governments, civil society organizations, and spiritual institutions. Speaking on the importance of character building, the Governor observed that ego ultimately leads to destruction, whereas Swabhiman (self-respect) and Swaman (self-awareness) help individuals lead disciplined and value-based lives. He praised Rajyoga Meditation for strengthening mental resilience, emotional stability, and inner peace, especially among young people facing increasing academic and social pressures. During the programme, he ceremonially handed over campaign flags to Brahma Kumaris sisters, symbolizing the beginning of an extensive awareness drive across Telangana.

Preserving Indian Values While Empowering the Youth

The Governor also spoke about India’s rich cultural heritage and emphasized the need to preserve traditional values even as young Indians pursue global opportunities. He noted that true development involves not only economic growth but also moral and spiritual progress. According to him, India’s ancient wisdom, combined with modern education and scientific thinking, can produce a generation capable of leading both the nation and the world. He expressed confidence that the positive spiritual vibrations generated by the Brahma Kumaris would inspire transformation not only within individuals but across communities, helping create a more compassionate and addiction-free society.

Education Must Go Beyond Academics, Says DPS Chairman

Addressing the gathering, Sri M. Komaraiah, Chairperson of DPS School, emphasized that educational institutions should not only focus on academic excellence but also cultivate values, ethics, and responsible citizenship. He observed that excessive dependence on digital devices has become a growing concern among young people and urged society to encourage meaningful human interaction, meditation, and self-discipline. He highlighted the transformative role of spirituality, particularly among women, in strengthening families and communities. Expressing appreciation for the work of the Brahma Kumaris, he said the organization’s continued efforts in character building and value education would make a lasting contribution to national development.

Shanti Sarovar Celebrates 22 Years of Spiritual Service

Welcoming the distinguished guests and participants, Rajyogini BK Kuldeep Didi, Director of Shanti Sarovar, informed the audience that the programme also marked the 22nd Anniversary of Shanti Sarovar, one of the Brahma Kumaris’ important spiritual centers. She explained that for decades the organization has worked tirelessly to help people overcome addiction through meditation, positive thinking, and spiritual knowledge. With increasing cooperation from government agencies, these efforts are now expanding to reach millions across India. She shared inspiring examples of individuals who had successfully freed themselves from addiction and rebuilt peaceful, healthy, and productive lives through Rajyoga Meditation.

Campaign Dedicated to the Vision of Late Dadi Prakashmani Ji

Presenting the campaign overview, BK Captain Shiv Singh (Indian Navy) stated that the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan has been dedicated to the sacred memory of Late Dadi Prakashmani Ji, the former Chief of the Brahma Kumaris, whose lifelong mission focused on peace, service, and spiritual empowerment. He also highlighted another remarkable social initiative undertaken by the organization, mentioning that during the previous year the Brahma Kumaris facilitated the collection of over 90,000 units of blood through its nationwide network of centers. These humanitarian efforts demonstrate the organization’s broader commitment to public health and community welfare.

Medical Leadership Strengthens the Campaign

The programme was effectively coordinated by Dr. BK Umarani, Telangana State Medical Wing Coordinator of the Brahma Kumaris, reflecting the campaign’s emphasis on integrating healthcare professionals with spiritual educators. The presence of Shri M. Dana Kishore, IAS, Special Chief Secretary to the Governor of Telangana, further reinforced the government’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote public health, youth welfare, and social transformation. The participation of senior administrators, educators, medical professionals, students, and volunteers highlighted the campaign’s broad-based approach and inclusive character.

Nearly 2,000 Citizens Join the Movement

The launch programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from nearly 2,000 officials, students, youth, educators, and members of the public, creating an atmosphere of hope and collective determination. Participants pledged to remain free from drugs and to motivate others within their families, schools, workplaces, and communities to embrace healthy and responsible lifestyles. The overwhelming public response demonstrated that awareness campaigns supported by government institutions and social organizations can become powerful catalysts for lasting behavioural change.

A Vision for a Healthier, Value-Based India

The 10 Crore Drug-Free India Abhiyan represents more than an awareness campaign; it is a national movement aimed at transforming society through education, spirituality, personal responsibility, and community participation. By inspiring citizens to reject substance abuse and embrace healthy living, the initiative seeks to create a stronger, happier, and more productive India. As the campaign expands across states, it has the potential to become one of the country’s most impactful public health and social reform movements, strengthening the vision of a Healthy India, Nasha Mukt Bharat, and a youth population capable of driving the nation’s future with confidence and integrity.
